Lexington - Snow's BBQ

We finally made the drive to Lexington to experience Texas Monthly's top pick for Texas BBQ 4th of July weekend 2023.  It truly reflects the heart of hard work, dedication, of the skilled Pitmaster Miss Tootsie. There has been much said about this amazing woman from documentaries to publications.  I like this article Tootsie Tomanetz - Snow's BBQ — Barbecue Wife shares a different insight.  I love how she does everything by feel, like our parents did, no temperature gauges, measurements, just an experienced eye of knowing when the meat is wells seasoned and done cooking.

Since we live just over 60 miles away decided to phone our order in for pick up at 10 AM, rather than wait 4 hours in line.  It's a nice touch for locals to not have to wait in line and agree not to eat it on site, saving the tables for visitors. We are rule followers and enjoyed our food at home and still experience the happiness of being in such a special place.

We have been through the experience of waiting in line for BBQ, but since we had the dogs with us, thought it best not to subject them to the tempting smells.  Snow's is dog friendly and was able to walk to the back where the pits are to pick up our order of sausage, ribs and pork.  I make a lot of brisket and wanted to try other offerings.  I was surprised to have Kerry the owner helps me as Miss Tootsie was just sitting down after a long night's work.  It looked like my timing was great, no one else was around and they seemed relaxed and were so gracious to visit with me talking about their food and let me take their picture.  It is impressive to cook with fire and manage the heat, I have such respect and admiration for Miss Tootsie.  I think her faith and how she lives her life is the joy that shines through her smile.

Snows is special open only on Saturdays where people travel from all over the world.  While waiting in line to check out their merchandise in a small separate building, met folks from Europe and South America.  One lady was visiting from Florida and had been there since 4 AM!

It is a beautiful sight to see how BBQ brings people together to a small country town to appreciate the craft, talent and the hard work.  There is a reason not everyone can do what Snows does with such care and humility.
