Dripping Springs - Treaty Oak Distillery
Treaty Oak is a fantastic venue to host a small BBQ festival under the shade of trees highlighting their bourbon. We have been to these events a few times and always enjoyed the welcoming laid-back feel, happy people and the best BBQ bites. This reminds me of being in Hawaii talking story with the pitmasters and enjoying the love they put into their food.
We were able to visit with Big Moe Cason from the old TV show BBQ Pitmaster competition, such a nice man, we talked BBQ, diabetes, his incredible weight loss, his love of Hawaii and time served in military, and his upcoming projects (Nat Geo, cookbook). Rasheed Phillips, winner of the American Barbeque Showdown was gracious to sign his recipe page he contributed to Kevin Bludso's BBQ cookbook. Another kind soul who loves perfecting his craft. We saw Ernest Servantes who opened Burnt Bean in Sequin there, too. These guys work so hard. We were lucky to eat at Burnt Bean shortly after he opened before the lines got crazy.
These events are fun to learn about new places to try like Egyption BBQ at KG BBQ in Austin. The sumac lamb shoulder was so good I wanted to go back for more. He just received word about a James Beard nomination that week, so cool to be recognized for a unique style of BBQ.
Definitely check out their calendar for the next BBQ event.
